The Ludlow English Song Weekend

Thursday 30 May to Sunday 2 June 2013

“Ringed by blue remembered hills, Ludlow is the perfect
setting for a triennial festival of English song.”
Hilary Finch, The Times, 2010

Iain Burnside is the Artistic Director of the 2013 Ludlow English Song Weekend. This is the fifth triennial Festival organised by Finzi Friends, devoted to both well-loved English song but also exploring less well-known repertoire. The music will range from Finzi, Gurney and Vaughan Williams, to sparky new works by today’s composers. Julian Philips and Brian Elias have been invited to write songs for this special occasion.

As well as recitals by outstanding artists and up-and-coming talent, there are talks, workshops, film and masterclasses, with the competition for young composers a particularly enjoyable high spot.

Events take place in the elegant Assembly Rooms of the historic market town in the Marches of Shropshire, with several events in the ancient parish church.
